Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Transit Operator is to ensure a safe and pleasant riding experience for all customers. Customer service is a large part of the Transit Operator’s daily activities. Transit Operators monitor their customers and other motorists, while exercising a great deal of tact and diplomacy when dealing with all customers.

CMBC Transit Operators are responsible for the safe operation of CMBC Transit Vehicles under all weather and traffic conditions. CMBC Transit Vehicles follow a set schedule and Transit Operators strive to follow schedule guidelines, sometimes under challenging circumstances.
Transit Operators work alone without direct supervision, which requires a great deal of individual autonomy and responsibility. However, CMBC Employees work as a team to support each other. Transit Operators maintain radio communications with dispatch and buses are equipped with Automatic Vehicle Location Systems.

As a Conventional Transit Operator, you will be expected to drive a variety of vehicles with routes that take you all over the city. Operators will be working directly with the public and dealing with the daily challenges of the job in an independent work environment.

Qualifications
- Must be a Canadian citizen or a Landed Immigrant.
- Must hold a minimum of a class 5 BC Driver’s Licence or Canadian equivalent.
- Must be able to obtain a minimum of a class two (2) BC Commercial Learner’s Driver’s Licence (BCDL) with the air brake endorsement. The Learner’s Licence must be valid for at least six (6) months past the date of application.
- No more than one (1) violation in the past three (3) years. Maximum points on the one (1) violation can be no more than three (3) points. No roadside suspensions or driving prohibitions in the past five (5) years.
- No more than one (1) at fault accident in the past three (3) years.
- Sufficient command of the English language (understanding, reading, writing, speaking) for communicating effectively with transit users.
- Able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills; experience in providing customer service; responding to and meeting the needs of the public.
- Ability to provide a total of three (3) employer references. One (1) reference must be from the current employer. These references must be in a supervisory capacity.
- Ability to work any type of shift at any CMBC depot.
- Applicants must not have criminal charges or convictions related to the employment position for which they have not received a pardon. CMBC assesses information about a criminal record on a case by case basis.

不过就算有也不知道有没有用？会不会也象skytrain招人一样需要“拼爹”的，我可没什么可以跟他们拼的。
看来现在就要去学个2级的驾照以备后用。

1. Application Submitted
Submitted applications will be reviewed for completeness and to ensure all information required has been provided. Only those applicants short listed for further consideration will be contacted.

2. “Start” People Sense Video Test
The Video Test presents 50 scenarios, which are frequently encountered by Transit Operators. After each situation is presented applicants enter their selection for the most appropriate response on a multiple choice testing form. The video test measures an applicant’s customer service skills and their ability to diffuse potential conflict situations. The test takes approximately 2 hours to complete. You will also be required to complete an English comprehension test. When attending testing, you must bring valid picture identification with you, i.e., valid passport and/or valid driver’s license. To ensure the integrity and security of Coast Mountain Bus Company’s Operator Trainee hiring process, only a Pass/Fail result will be disclosed. Detailed information about test results or the scores will not be provided.

3. Panel Interview
The interview consists of a panel of two individuals. Applicants must demonstrate that they possess the key qualities for the position using specific past and present work-related experiences and how these were handled. While attending the panel interview, you must present picture identification in the form of a valid Driver’s license. (If you have recently renewed your Driver’s license and carry just an Interim Driver’s Permit please ensure you have a valid passport or BC ID in your possession) You must also bring a complete list of work references and a copy of your current resume.

4. Trainability Testing
The Trainability test is conducted at one of CMBC’s Transit Centres. The applicant spends approximately 2 hours with an Instructor from our Training Department and has the opportunity to drive a bus on the city streets in the area. This testing measures the ability to remember a specific set of instructions. On the day of your trainability testing, you must bring with you the original copy of your British Columbia Class 2 w/air (Conventional Operator) Instructional Learner’s License or; British Columbia Class 4 Instructional Learner’s License (Community Shuttle) if applicable. Please ensure that your Learner’s license has not expired. You must also present a valid Driver’s License (if you have recently renewed your Driver’s license and carry just an Interim Driver’s Permit please ensure you have a valid passport or BC ID in your possession). To ensure the integrity and security of Coast Mountain Bus Company Ltd’s Operator Trainee hiring process, only a Pass/Fail result will be given. Detailed information about test results or the scores will not be disclosed.

5. Reference Checking
Please note trainability testing and reference checks will be conducted simultaneously. If you have been at your current job for a long period of time, we will conduct reference checks with former supervisors that you have had with your current employer. If self-employed, references from regular customers, suppliers, etc. are required. A minimum of three (3) references encompassing the last 5 years are required to complete this stage of the process. In-depth reference checks are conducted by Coast Mountain Bus Company Ltd. staff to verify all information provided on the application form and during the panel interview.

6. Criminal Record Search
Applicants will be asked to obtain a Criminal Record Search including a Vulnerable Sector Search. Applicants must not have criminal charged or convictions related to the employment position for which they have not received a pardon.

Applications are assessed to determine if applicants have demonstrated a safe and responsible driving history, as determined by Coast Mountain Bus Company Ltd.

7. Medical Exam
Upon successful completion of the above steps CMBC will contact applicants to be scheduled for a medical exam. Please do not complete this step on your own. Our medical encompasses the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Act to ensure that the applicants meet the medical qualifications necessary to hold a Class 2 w/air or Class 4 License. Applicants who hold a Class 2 w/air (Conventional) or a Class 4 (Unrestricted) (Community Shuttle) Learner’s License will be instructed to obtain a Driver’s Medical Examination Form from the Motor Vehicle Branch to take with them to their appointment in order to complete their Medical. There may be a fee for the Driver’s Medical Examination Form of $28.00.

8. Offer of Employment
Those who have successfully completed all the recruitment steps are contacted with a verbal offer of employment as a Transit Operator Trainee and a mutually convenient start date is arranged.
