Thanks for the great article for those people want to squeeze into the government.
But I have been doing the contractor for federal government for more than 10 years, but still DO WANT to be a government employees.
Here are the main reasons:
1) government jobs 不是铁饭碗

Therefore, I will vote for Conservative to shred off that many government people do nothing.
2) The truth of Most Chinese in the government
a) Since Chinese cannot speak French, Chinese cannot be even a team leader.
b) Highest salary of most Chinese is 80K in their lives since CS-02 is within $60K - $80K. Most Chinese are CS-02 (intermediate) And in order to get into the Government, a lot of Chinese want only ask for 60K.
This actually give me a stroke since I thought a lot of Chinese can make more than $90K until a friend of mine who used to be a contractor was hired by Government for the motivation of his wife.
c) The benefits of government employees are great, but it depends upon the high tax of your income. Therefore, a lot of them are 月光族。
d) A lot of Chinese even want to start at CS-01 ($40K - $60K junior) after an intern at government from Algonquin College
3) government 是大锅饭
Your performance will ONLY be appreciated when more work will be assigned to you next run in the team under the Team Work Policy.
Therefore, nobody really wants to work hard since there is no benefits.
4) Government let people be sluggard
Therefore, many people change to be analyst, QA, technical advisor after short time, but cannot do the real work. Therefore, they have to hire the real people with true skills
5) Many government people cannot think much
There are some very talented and high skilled people in government, but that only counts about 10%. But since a lot of Chinese are forced to learn IT to make a living, they are not in that 10%.
Also, most people are doing like a machine (simple and repeating) work in a very small field, they cannot think much

Most management positions are governed by the people from Quebec (they cannot speak very good English) due to the Quebec Independence incident.
Canadian government and people really hate to be compared with USA. Therefore, they only hire very few top level talents from USA, like the previous host of CBC's National program.
Also, American can learn French much faster than Chinese due to the same western linguistic system, just like Chinese can learn Japanese faster than Western people

I personally don't want to deprecate either labor work or government employees.
In the western point of views, anyone doing a job is equal as long as you are passionate of your work. There is no difference.
I have done the labor work (现在的肩肘炎就是病根) 20 years ago also, and my wife works at the federal government.
But in this capitalism world, most labor work cannot gain money very efficiently. However, in Canada, the current $15 per hour minimum wage means $30K annual income, not much difference from $40K annual come before tax.
