defined group of person：person 是已知事物，是人不是妖; 但是需要进一步阐明是这群人不是那群人，所以这里要用define这个词

我跟LAOX888 的分歧在于语法的理解， 我想。
例如, Read the highlighed part, and ....
他认为highlighted 是动词的过去分词，仍是动词，
我的理解是highlighted是动词的过去分词作定语，其性质是形容词。
一个词的词性要看在词在句子中的位置，而不仅仅是原始词性。
例如：Don't brother me, it bothers me.
究其原本词性brother 当然是名词，但是在这里当动词使用，做谓语动词。
一个词的词性取决于在句子中的作用，无论什么原始词性，只要做定语，那就是形容词性；如果做谓语，就是动词； 如果做主语/或者宾语，一定是名词词性。
如： An iron ring is glittering in the moon light, 这其中的iron作为定语，是形容词性；
Experimentally determined value, determined 肯定不是决意的意思，而是ascertained 的意思，作为定语修饰名词，因此是动词的过去分词不起动词作用，而起形容词作用，是定语来修饰名词。
新的语法体系的建立好像是James Quirk 从七十年代开始提出新的叫法，把-ed 分词当成形容词或者副词，不分动名词（gerund)和进行时，都是-ing 分词。我既不确切，似乎是中学老师提到的一本书叫做新编语法教程（章振邦）提及。

我倾向于：一个词的词性要看句子的位置和作用。
