Halifax Regional Police (HRP) has informed Dalhousie University that a high-risk sex offender will be released from a federal prison today. Douglas Gladstone Burden, 55, will be released to a community correctional centre in the Halifax area.

HRP releases this information to alert members of the public of a high-risk offender’s presence in the area so they may take suitable precautionary measures. To connect with the police in an emergency, dial 9-1-1. The non-emergency dispatch number is 490-5020.
Security Services patrols all Dalhousie campuses 24/7. We request that you call security immediately at 494-6400 if you notice or witness any suspicious behaviour on campus at any time. There are several emergency telephone lines located outdoors on all campuses.
We remind everyone to always take personal safety precautions on and off campus:
• Ensure all doors and windows around you are closed and locked.
• Use the buddy system whenever possible to avoid walking alone at night.
• You can also call the Tiger Patrol at 499-1831 or 718-9908. It’s a free transportation option available to all students, faculty and staff between 6pm-1:30 a.m. during the academic year. Ensure you have and show your Dalcard. Route information can be found here:
