微笑对许多人来讲是再简单不过的事情,但是对唇腭裂(兔唇)的孩子而言,却是难如登天.
据统计每约800位新生儿就有一个唇腭裂的发生率,对有唇腭裂孩童的家庭,无疑是一场灾难,
若是家庭经济许可那问题也不大,但是对于一些农村,乡下,偏远山区的贫苦家庭,那可是不可承受之痛.
唇腭裂小孩越早手术越好,否则不但无法正常进食,说话,学习外,亦会受到同侪的排挤及歧视,除造成生理及心理上不健全的发展,.越晚治疗难度越高,社会成本也越高
在台湾我所属的社团(及foundation基金会)每一年要做十来件社区服务案件,同时也会选择几个国外的Case进行专案,
除了东南亚几个比较需要的国家如泰国,菲律宾,孟加拉,柬浦赛...等,近几年也在大陆贫困地区进行了一些专案 ,我们称之为WCS (World Community service),
除了之前曾经说过的川震后续工程外(2010年-四川德阳市中小学净水设备),这两年也陆续完成了,蒙古地区子宫颈癌筛检及治疗,
及山区取水及简易发电设施工程,上周又通过了贵州省微笑工程(Cleft Lip and Palate Surgeries in Guizhou China)
每年申请案件众多,虽然每件都想做,但经费有限总有遗珠之憾,今年在与香港及美国的合作夥伴研议之后,
日作正式通过贵州地区儿童微笑工程(这是我们的说法,就是唇腭裂孩子的手术支援计划.
以往在大陆地区进行各项服务项目,我们是绝对不会假手他人(原因就不用说了),一定都是我们社团内的Member亲自参与及督导工程进行,
但是因为这次的项目牵涉到医学专业,包含医院,设备,医护人员以及地方政府和手术对向的选择(贫困家庭孩童是我们唯一的要求)
所以必须与中国人口福利基金会配合,The China Population Welfare Foundation（ CPWF ），以便顺利推展计划.
明年初(2014年)一组24人的医护团队将前往执行,这次除了两项70个孩子的手术外,包含整型,牙床重整,矫正等都需要持续且有效的追踪.
新的一年新的希望,新的面孔心的人生,每年六月前专案小组必须要做结案报告,届时再将结果及孩子们的喜悦与大家分享.
不用质疑我在社团中的地位,我是这个社团及基金会的创办人,第一届社长 Charter President.
本案通过,不管你高不高兴,反正我是很高兴.
一个孩子的微笑,一个家庭的欢欣.孩子能笑 很重要!

Grant Project :Cleft Lip and Palate Surgeries in Guizhou China
Project description and focus
Maternal and Child Health, cleft Lip and palate surgeries in Guizhou China:
Alliance for Smile plan to do two missions in 2014, sending a team of around 20 medical professionals and 4 non-medical professionals for each mission. We expect to treat about 70 children during each mission.
Objectives for this Project will be:
To deal with the immediate need for free reconstructive cleft lip and palate surgeries
To establish multi-disciplinary treatment center for long term care of cleft patients
Two areas of focus
To send Medical/Surgical teams to deal with the immediate need for free reconstructive cleft lip and palate surgeries
Where the infrastructure of site is adequate and there is interest and commitment from the local hospital and government, to establish multi-disciplinary Treatment Centers for long term care of cleft patients
Partnering organization
The China Population Welfare Foundation (CPWF) which works closely with the provincial and local State Family Planning Commission
Jointly created the Happy Smiles Campaign for free treatment of cleft lip and palate patients
Had conducted a needs assessment for the entire province of Guizhou. In 2012 targeted 1200 untreated cases.
