Property Monitoring Technician
Seasonal Contract
May 5 – August 22, 2014
30 hours / week
$12.00/hr

Working as part of a team, the Property Monitoring Technician will support the implementation of the property monitoring program for Muskoka Conservancy. This position will work closely with the Technical Advisory Group and the Executive Director to ensure the Nature Reserves and Conservation Easements are monitored according to established protocols.

General Duties (include but not limited to):

  • Coordinating and scheduling the annual monitoring of 22 nature reserves and 11 conservation easements
  • Conducting property monitoring with the assistance of volunteers and board members
  • Completing all field documentation reports and checklists
  • Reporting Conservation Easement monitoring findings to the Executive Director
  • Maintaining appropriate files on all property visits (paper and electronic)
  • Liaising with landowners, and volunteers to ensure all properties are monitored according to established protocols
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in post secondary studies for ecology, biology, forestry, ecosystem management, environmental studies or other related program
  • Orienteering and GPS skills
  • Identification skills related to flora and fauna typical in the Muskoka region
  • Field note taking and documentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills and file management skills
  • Ability to work effectively and courteously with volunteers and the public
  • An understanding of health and safety in the field
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
Must qualify for the Canada Summer Jobs program (be a full-time student between the ages of 15 and 30 with the intention of returning to school full-time in the fall)
