Senior Mechanical EngineerDuties & Responsibilities:
- Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work usually in one discipline in a project or staff group. Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and/or difficult coordination requirements
- Plans, coordinates or prepares equipment or work specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations for equipment
- Coordinates engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors and between other groups
- When delegated, assumes a lead technical role over other engineers or project subgroups for completing specific tasks
- Assists in on-the-job-training of assigned personnel and provides input for their performance evaluations
- Prepares letters to vendors and clients
- Reviews bid analyses and makes recommendation
- Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals
- Performs or assists in the performance of problem analysis and original design
- Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders
- Reviews and checks work of subordinate engineers

Qualifications and Experience:
- 10 to 20 years rotating equipment experience (API-610 including pipeline pumps)
- Experience in the EPC industry
- Firewater and foam system specification experience
- API 650 tank experience would be an asset.
Position Summary:
Project Engineer - Refinery.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Responsible for own safety in all activities on site and an active role in site safety - providing oversight and reporting with the overall goal of zero injuries.
- Provide leadership for the safe performance of tasks performed by co-workers.
- Approves and adopts the final execution design and construction estimate, and is responsible to manage activities within the budget.
- Oversees the division of projects into manageable work packages, work planning and scheduling.
- Dissemination of work packages to contractors and directs the issue of material and labour purchase orders.
- Responsible for the management of project changes and obtaining approval prior to variance from the authorized scope, schedule or cost.
- Support the continuous improvement and lessons learned programs of the plant site and engineering design office.
- Coordinates the engineering activities on a project.
- Has full technical responsibility for planning, interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating the engineering assignments and activities on the project.
- Manages the engineering budget for the project, maintains ownership, and conducts execution within approved budgets.
- Establishes / manages the detailed project design, engineering scope and maintains ownership.
- Manages and coordinates the project design and engineering deliverables.
- Establishes / manages and reviews the engineering project schedule carries out any actions to prioritize/re-schedule the engineering deliverables.
- Pro-actively identifies resolution, critical issues associated with scope, schedule, cost or quality for assigned portion of project scope.
- Will act as the primary interface for the Project Manager, for all engineering matters within the project.
- Provides the prime liaison and contact for Client’s Project Engineer as required.
- Coordinates the management of engineering sub consultants.
- Management of technical documentation to procurement, construction, and regulatory agencies (for obtaining necessary Permits for the project).
- Recommends technical reviews to PEM, reviews contract documentation from engineering standpoint.
- Undertakes design co-ordination meetings with construction at various phases.
- Undertakes and co-ordinates project technical risk assessments.
- Coordinates, manages the statutory and company specific design reviews are undertaken, i.e. Plot Plan, PFD, P&ID, HAZOP, 3D model, Constructability etc. Ensures that requisite supporting documentation is completed.
- Coordinates, manages the engineering design and corresponding design documentation complies with the quality procedures in place at the time.
- Coordinates project Technical Risk Assessments.
- Ensures that safety practices are implemented.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in Oil & Gas, specifically with Refinery experience, in an engineering discipline or related project engineering role.
- P.Eng. member with APEGA.
- Strong directional leadership, people management and communication skills.
- Proficient technical background in one or more disciplines with strong understanding of the interfaces between all engineering disciplines.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently to resolve problems and overcome obstacles.
- Strong interpersonal skills and capable of providing leadership and direction to project execution.
- Management of project scope, schedule and cost from project approval to execution.
- Proficient technical ability and awareness, project engineering processes and procedures.
- Proficient execution planning skills.
- Strong in organizing and managing complex engineering activities.
- Working knowledge of industry / regulatory standards and design criteria within the engineering disciplines.
- Strong knowledge of HSE procedures and practices.
- Working knowledge of project control systems, estimating procedures, procurement systems procedures.
- Prior experience with SAP based procurement is an asset.
- Working knowledge of industrial, refinery or petrochemical project construction practices and procedures.
- Working knowledge of the EPC business, proposals and bid processes and business administration.
