Mona Wang:

What happened to Mona Wang has deeply sadden and scared us. The force used by the officer was both excessive and unnecessary and led to unnecessary trauma. Similar to other examples of police using excessive forces, the incident has resulted in deep emotional and physical injuries. We come together to join the rest of Canada to demand for police reform. We all need a safe community protected by a trustworthy and professional police force.
Main points on police reform:
1) ACCOUNTABILITY, it is time for the police to be under the supervision of a locally elected board.
2) TRANSPARENCY, police officers should be wearing bodycamera.
3) PROFESSIONAL LIMITATION, all officers should only be function within their training and scope. When additional support is needed, police should seek professional support like social workers and mental health professionals.
Apologies to the victims of excessive police. Using Mona Wang's incident as an example. No matter what the protocols are, there is no excuse for an officer to drag a semi-conscious, non-resisting, and half-dressed woman through a public hallway and leaving her on the cold floor. Why would the officer feel the need to use her foot to step on Mona Wang's head? The action was both unnecessary and degrading.
If there weren't cameras, there will be no justice for Mona Wang. Canadian Police must apologize and reform. As a community we are determined to ensure such horrified incident will not happen again.
