It is impossible to determine if the punishment Chin is subjected to (prison, homelessnesses, etc) can every evenly balance the pain he inflicted on others, but this story asks us reach deep into our complicated selves and reflect on which aspects of our humanity might heal an ailing and messy society: empathy, forgiveness, redemption, charity to others, love. As the author of the article wonderfully says in his intro to the audio version, behind every person eating a fish sandwich on a bench in NYC you may find an unbelievably story (something to that affect).
