Human Resources is accepting applications for on-call Library Assistant II’s. Applicants must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, including Saturdays or Sundays. Interviews will be held and those selected must successfully complete a training and practicum session. Please include an outline of your availability in your cover letter or résumé.
Job Summary: Checks in and checks out circulating books, periodicals and related materials; registers patron; collects overdue fines and issues receipts; conducts patron enquiries on computer terminal; answers routine questions from the public in person and on the telephone; locates and distributes requested materials to patrons; processes reserved books, pool books, overdue books and a variety of library materials; shelf reads; prepares material for binding; operates standard equipment related to the work such as photocopiers, microfilm readers, fax machines, computer terminals and cash registers; and performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications: Completion of Grade 12. Strong customer service and cash experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Some experience in a library setting is an asset. Knowledge of: business English, spelling, punctuation, arithmetic, library methods, procedures, organization and policies of the library and of the rules and regulations applicable to the work. Ability to: learn clerical tasks readily and to perform them effectively, follow instructions, establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with employees and public, provide factual information quickly and courteously. Superior clerical aptitude. Knowledge of computer applications and skill in keyboarding rapidly and accurately.
Salary: $19.62 - $23.00 per hour plus 12% in lieu of benefits.
