Main Purpose & Function :
This position involves routine tire repair work in the Equipment Services Garage, and in the field.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities :
The incumbent will be responsible for stripping, repairing, assembling, and replacing a variety of vehicle tires, wheels,
and rims. Supervision will be provided by the Tire Worker II regarding fleet priortities; changed standards, tire types, or
repair methods necessitated by City policy or contract changes.
You will also manage the Tire Shop in an acting capacity, and work without supervision when the Tire Worker II is
unavailable. The incumbent will deal with customer service requests and complaints on a timely basis. Other duties
include communicating with the Garage Control Centre to create and maintain work order requests. Aid in the control
of the Tire Shop mounted and repaired stock inventories, servicing tires with calcium chloride solution and related
work as required. Responsible for following safety procedures and identifying and correcting safety hazards as
necessary. Other duties related to the work of the Branch as required.
Qualifications :
Completion of grade ten; supplemented by several years of experience and courses related to the automotive industry
or heavy-duty trucks and equipment tire industry, tire inventory management, or an equivalent combination of
education, training, and experience.
Considerable knowledge of current tire repairs methods, materials, and tools. Must exercise considerable judgement
and skill when dealing with all aspects of the tire repair process. Proven ability to disassemble and reassemble tires
and rims safely and efficiently. Skill in the use and care of tools essential for tire repair and servicing. Skill in the
operation of various vehicles. Proven ability to repair and service a variety of tires for vehicles and equipment,
maintain reoutine notes on work orders and other clerical records. Demonstrated ability to work as a team member
with superior verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with co-workers and customers, including interpreting and/or determining their service needs and following up to ensure that their needs are met; must be able to satisfactorily deal with customer service requests and complaints in a timely manner.
Demonstrate flexibility to work in a rapidly changing environment with competing schedules and deadlines.
A current and valid BC drivers license is a requirement of this position. Transporation arrangements must meet
operational requirements of the Department. Must hold a valid Forklift Operator certificate or have the ability to obtain it.
