为了找工作，帕考克不幸陷入“秘密消费者”（secret shopper）的骗局，而这种金融诈骗流传甚广。帕考克昨天说她感觉糟糕透了，如同被抢劫一样。

当初帕考克看到一则市场开发公司（Canpro Market Development）的招聘广告，声称为圣约翰市（St. John's）进行市场调研。而后经皇家骑警证实，这是一个虚假的公司。

帕考克被“应聘”之后，“雇主”给她寄来了两个帝国银行（CIBC）汇票，每一个最高2500元。帕考克被告知，每一张汇票保留200元，其余可用来为“检验”金融机构的服务使用，其中就包括西联汇款（Western Union）。

帕考克被委任的“工作”，就是通过“模拟汇款”，检验西联汇款是否检查身份证据，但必须汇去千元以上。钱用寄来的汇票，似乎万无一失。帕考克将其汇票储蓄到附近的Vancity，对方的存款机也接收了。结果立即与她的个人账户链接，将她的存款冻结，她的钱被转走。

皇家骑警发言人克雷特尔（Tim Kreiter）昨天就此说，上述案例十分普遍，特别是在经济比较困难的时期，发生的频率更大。自从6月以来，仅在大温低陆平原地区，就已有10起相关的投诉，上当者频繁出现。
