Position: Constituency Assistant ? Temporary (6 months ? With a possibility of renewal)
Full-Time Position
Location: Constituency Office, Toronto ON
Responsibilities:
--Manage and respond to constituent casework including outreach and correspondence
Administer and log incoming phone calls, emails, faxes and walk-in traffic at M.P. Constituency Office
--Liaise with various community organizations and federal government departments
Maintain database lists and direct mail to constituents in coordination with Ottawa parliamentary office
--Represent Member at events and meetings
--Monitor events in riding and advise Member on issues concerning the riding
--Liaise with Parliament Hill office
--Organize, in consultation with Parliament Hill office, constituency association and community organizations outreach activities that offer both visibility for the Member and opportunities to receive constituency feedback
--Assist with Member’s constituent correspondence
--General administrative and reception duties
--Liaise with Parliament Hill office to coordinate and manage bills and expenses for payment
--Schedule Member’s constituency activities and conduct travel arrangements in consultation with Member’s Ottawa office
--Liaise with Member’s Ottawa Office
--Liaise with House of Commons department and Member’s Ottawa office to ensure smooth running of constituency office and office machinery
--Other duties as required
Qualifications:
--Proven communication skills (verbal and written)
--Strong organizational skills, ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
--Strong computer skills including Internet, Windows Vista and MS Office 2007
--Familiarity with the Toronto-Danforth riding and riding priorities an asset
--Knowledge of the New Democratic Party and sound political judgement
--Knowledge of the labour movement, government departments, community organizations
--Knowledge of NDP Vote
--Knowledge of French a strong asset
--Cantonese, Mandarin or Greek language skills an asset
--Bookkeeping skills an asset
Annual Salary: $47,852 minimum
The salary levels are subject to clauses 12 and 21 of the collective agreement
Closing Date: July 26, 2010
