“Garota do Calhau” (Girl of the Pebbles)

​

A brand of international reference in design, Nini Andrade Silva is a Portuguese interior decorator renowned for designing several famous hotels around the world. Her latest design is an original outdoor and indoor furniture collection that was inspired by the black rolling pebbles of Madeira Island. Dubbed “Garota do Calhau” (Girl of the Pebbles) it’s comprised of a double sun lounger, a single sun lounger, a day bed, and a chaise lounge all made from synthetic rattan. Available from KIAN and priced somewhere between 2,120 and 2,720 Euro (US $2,700 to $3,500), it’s the elegant and contemporary design that makes me think of a couple of cervezas and a sunny day. Perfect, isn’t it?

Designer Philippe Starck is well known for modern furniture that has a most unique look, and the Moor(e) chair is no exception. This modern swivel chair comes in two versions, one with leather for indoor use, and the other with base and swivel seat in lacquered nylon for indoor or outdoor use.

Here is another all wood lounge chair by Sands Mulholland that once again shows their insight in the new age of modern design combined with old world construction and joinery. The "chaise bench" emulates the lines of their chaise lounge Furniture Fashion reviewed in a previous post, while affording a higher degree of customization in terms of lounging stance. This full length lounge chair allows you to rest firmly flat on the ground, or pull your feet back toward you and the chaise bench gently reclines for a more relaxed horizontal position. Place one hand on either side of the head rest and you can initiate a gentle rocking motion. Once again Sands Mulholland says bring this beauty inside if you must, but the chaise bench really makes the perfect patio furniture and a place to sun tan, read by the pool, or relax by the fire.
