Ontario health minister confirms first coronavirus-related death in province

Ontario’s Ministry of Health has confirmed the first death related to COVID-19 in the province.

The 77-year-old man who died tested positive for the virus after coming in close contact with another positive case.

“The COVID-19 was detected in their system post-death,” Christine Elliott, Ontario’s health minister, said in an interview with Global News Tuesday.

“This person had other physical problems that may have caused the death. We just don’t know yet.”

The coroner investigation is ongoing to determine the specific cause of death. Elliott said her ministry will likely not have information on this until Wednesday.
