今天我们要讲两个和吃东西有关的俗语。第一个是: “Greasy spoon”
Greasy 是油腻的意思, spoon 是指调羹,也就是汤勺。 Greasy 和 spoon 这两个字合在一起就是指那些有点像夫妻老婆店那样的小饭馆。这些小饭馆一般来说菜谱上花色品种并不多,碗筷也好像不那么干净,装潢也不讲究,但是菜的味道倒不错,价钱也很公道。
下面我们来举个例子。这是一个丈夫在对他的的妻子讲话:
例句-1:“Honey, let me take you out to dinner. But you know I don’t feel like dressing up to go some place fancy. How about just going down the street to the greasy spoon and getting hamburgers?”
丈夫说:“亲爱的,让我带你去外面吃晚饭吧。不过,我实在不想穿得必恭必敬的去那些大饭馆。咱们就上街那头那个小饭馆去吃汉堡包,怎么样?”

大举招揽人才 加国经验类移民今秋实施（转载）
联邦移民部周二宣布了一个新的移民类── 加拿大经验类(Canada Experience Class，简称CEC)，引起很大的议。
星岛日报消息，批评人士称，传统的敞开门户，欢迎移民的政策，已经余日不多了。他们预测，来的政策可能要求大部分的外国人先到加国作临时外劳，或签证学生，获得加国经验后，才有机会获得移民身份。
怀雅逊大学移民安顿研究生项目主任西米提基(Myer Siemiatycki)指出，问题在於，这是其它国家正在出现的一个趋势──主驾驭移民系统，决定谁可以移民。
他认为，这样的移民制度不再是壮大国家的手段，而变成了「主的人力资源部」。
CEC计划周二由移民部长范茵丽(Diane Finley)在滑铁卢大学(University of Waterloo)宣布，其宗旨是招揽具有已获加国承认的就业或学术资质的成功人士，希望藉此结束加国长期存在的「博士开的士」的怪现象。该计划今年 10月中旬开始实施。
范茵丽表示，该计划最初每年接纳1.2至1.8万移民，CEC的配额提高到2.5万人，相当於加国每年接纳移民总数的1/10左右。
她在新闻发布会上说：「按我们劳动市场的知识及加国社会的经验遴选新移民，会使加国更能吸引世界各地的技术人才。」
但是，有人担心，移民系统与高技术，引起在加国从事低薪工作，且留下希望渺茫的工人的不满情绪。他们还担心，把持著就业关口的主及招聘单位，可能对外国劳工进行剥削。
备受各方质疑
西米提基认为，这会引起永无止尽的「 分化和两极化」，移民和就业捆绑在一起，是「非常短视的，因为今天可供你做的工作，明天可能不存在。这就是21世界经济的现实」。
但范茵丽认为，这恰恰是该计划仅限於较高技术人才的原因。「我们知道这些人长期而言成功的机会最大。对於较低技能的工人，这些工作往往不会存在那么久」。
参加范茵丽宣布仪式的20岁印度尼西亚留学生丝云朵(Olivia Siswanto)表示，新的移民类对国际学生和加国均为有益，因为大部分国际学生来想在加创业，该计划帮助他们更容易及快捷地获得定居身份。
加国2007年接纳新移民236,758人，少於2005年高峰时期的262,240人。但是，同一时期外国临时工人的数量，从122,848人，增长到165,198人。
去年，加国迎来国际学生7.4万人。

那么怎么找到好的搬家公司呢？这就像购物，至少要“价比三家”，知道所支付的费用会包括哪些服务。有些搬家公司是根据重量收费，有些则根据数量。另外，在报价时搬家公司还会考虑到距离和时间问题。夏季是搬家旺季，所以费用要高。

Ladies and Gentlemen, I'd planned to speak to you tonight to report on the state of the Union, but the events of earlier today have led me to change those plans. Today is a day for mourning and remembering. Nancy and I are pained to the core by the tragedy of the shuttle Challenger. We know we share this pain with all of the people of our country. This is truly a national loss.
Nineteen years ago, almost to the day, we lost three astronauts in a terrible accident on the ground. But, we've never lost an astronaut in flight. We've never had a tragedy like this. And perhaps we've forgotten the courage it took for the crew of the shuttle. But they, the Challenger Seven, were aware of the dangers, but overcame them and did their jobs brilliantly. We mourn seven heroes: Michael Smith, Dick Scobee, Judith Resnik, Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, Gregory Jarvis, and Christa McAuliffe. We mourn their loss as a nation together.
For the families of the seven, we cannot bear, as you do, the full impact of this tragedy. But we feel the loss, and we're thinking about you so very much. Your loved ones were daring and brave, and they had that special grace, that special spirit that says, "Give me a challenge, and I'll meet it with joy." They had a hunger to explore the universe and discover its truths. They wished to serve, and they did. They served all of us.
We've grown used to wonders in this century. It's hard to dazzle us. But for twenty-five years the United States space program has been doing just that. We've grown used to the idea of space, and, perhaps we forget that we've only just begun. We're still pioneers. They, the members of the Challenger crew, were pioneers.
And I want to say something to the schoolchildren of America who were watching the live coverage of the shuttle's take-off. I know it's hard to understand, but sometimes painful things like this happen. It's all part of the process of exploration and discovery. It's all part of taking a chance and expanding man's horizons. The future doesn't belong to the fainthearted; it belongs to the brave. The Challenger crew was pulling us into the future, and we'll continue to follow them.
I've always had great faith in and respect for our space program. And what happened today does nothing to diminish it. We don't hide our space program. We don't keep secrets and cover things up. We do it all up front and in public. That's the way freedom is, and we wouldn't change it for a minute.
We'll continue our quest in space. There will be more shuttle flights and more shuttle crews and, yes, more volunteers, more civilians, more teachers in space. Nothing ends here; our hopes and our journeys continue.
I want to add that I wish I could talk to every man and woman who works for NASA, or who worked on this mission and tell them: "Your dedication and professionalism have moved and impressed us for decades. And we know of your anguish. We share it."
There's a coincidence today. On this day 390 years ago, the great explorer Sir Francis Drake died aboard ship off the coast of Panama. In his lifetime the great frontiers were the oceans, and a historian later said, "He lived by the sea, died on it, and was buried in it." Well, today, we can say of the Challenger crew: Their dedication was, like Drake's, complete.
The crew of the space shuttle Challenger honored us by the manner in which they lived their lives. We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they prepared for their journey and waved goodbye and "slipped the surly bonds of earth" to "touch the face of God."
