10月登陆确实不太好，天气冷了，刚来要出门办事不方便，心情容易受打击。
我最近看到桑德贝（雷湾），咨询还不多，要不你也研究一下？

You'd better find a chance to study in a relevant major at Dalhousie university. You won't regret. Halifax is a great place to study.

Dal is a very good school, famous in Law, sea Science, Medical School,Nurse, Industry Engineering, Library of Information Science, and etc. However, as a head-on, you should know, average Tuition at DAL is almost the most expensive across Canada.

长久以来，就一直非常喜欢HALIFAX这个地方，俺关注咱们这个论坛已经很长时间了。时常对于toann，Natacha，糊里糊涂，筷子和乔大侠的文章有点爱不释手的感觉。这次移民目的地的选择，几经考虑最后把诺省，这个大多数中国移民所忽视的地方圈定为首选。我承认有一点属于剑走偏锋的意味。而且，我从来没有去过那里，很多分析都是建立在凭想象的基础上。在这里，诚恳的向各位前辈请教，还望大家能如实相告，城城爸爸感激不尽。

先说一下基本情况：

俺36岁，本科学历；城城妈妈35，国内PHD；城城3岁。计划2008年10月1日前后，先到温哥华。只办枫叶卡，然后城妈带孩子回去。俺再去Halifax，在那里办SIN卡及医疗卡等等，完成长登。

俺大学里学的是管理，95年毕业。干了12年的记者，主要是在电视台，期间，报社也干过一年多。英文尚可，是受洗基督教（新教）徒。我知道，记者这个行业在国外是很难找工作的。我觉得既然反正是找不到，那当地的经济状况好坏也就不那么重要了。

去那的考虑是：
1，最重要的一点，当地人友好。容易交到朋友。据说是加国第二友好的地方。（第一是纽芬兰，只是那疙瘩实在是太冷了。）
2，语言环境是最好的，要是在那英语还流利不起来，别的地方就更没戏了。
3，从文化源头来说，诺省是开发最早的。文化底蕴是最厚的。（相对来说，因为整个加国都是个新兴国家）。第一张报纸，第一家电台都在那儿。
4，相比较而言，那里的花费也省一些。房租房价低一些。不过好象日常用品不便宜。
5，我感觉（没根据）那里的宗教氛围可能会浓一些，也许我会比较容易找到合适的教会。

总之，此次登陆地点的选择，我承认考虑精神层面的多了一些。是否有失与偏颇。还望大家能够直言相告，谢谢！

每个人的经历和体验都不同,即使是最好的城市, 如果你遇上了恶人,你的感觉也会变得很差.再次提醒你, 冬天登陆不是很有利.

You'd better find a chance to study in a relevant major at Dalhousie university. You won't regret. Halifax is a great place to study.

Dal is a very good school, famous in Law, sea Science, Medical School,Nurse, Industry Engineering, Library of Information Science, and etc. However, as a head-on, you should know, average Tuition at DAL is almost the most expensive across Canada.

Now, our obstacles are: 1, Cost, as you said, the tuition is expensive, how to apply scholarship,or fellowship, or anything like that to cover it. 2, Is it difficult to enter? It must require a lot of application files i guess. Can they be prepared, that is challenge.

每个人的经历和体验都不同,即使是最好的城市, 如果你遇上了恶人,你的感觉也会变得很差.再次提醒你, 冬天登陆不是很有利.

时间不完全由我们自己决定。前赶后措，最早也只能9月底10初了。明年4月签证过期，也不成。

Do research by yourself on dal.ca. Prepare documents per their request. To be honest, you nearly can't find any fellowship at graduate level. However, sometimes, a 3-month summer intern job (normally 10-17 $/hours) can lessen the financial burden a lot. But not every one can get a summer intern. During every semester, student job opportunities (10-15 $/hour, 8-20 hours/week) can be applied for. As long as you believe the major you choose is a profession-oriented, like law, dentist, medicine, Library, don't care too much about the cost. You eventually can get reward on your investment.


Because you choose Halifax, I give the above opinions.

Bear in mind, Nova Scotia is a poor province, I don't think you can get any financial aid from NS Gov. Ontario has OSAP and Quebec has Loan and Bursary. If you can get in Mcgill or any universities in Toronto, don't bother going to Dal. On the other hand, if you land in Ontario or Montreal and can only get admission to Dal, pack and go, you are still eligible for the study aid programs from Quebec or Ontario.

Frankly, unlike in the U.S., admissions to Canadian graudate studies are competitive or even fierce to some degree, because of large volume of applications against tiny number of schools. Don't falter but try, you won't lose anything or time something.

Thanks for your suggestion. I'll look through the website carelly. Right now i have no inclination about major. It seems anyone suitable, as long as it accepts me, the main factor is ADMISSION.

To be honest, i was not a good student when I was being uninversity student in China. Make the situation worse, unlike my wife, I'm quite awkward about test, so mere Tofel and GRE could smash my confidence, not to metion GMAT, which nomarlly are required for MBA application.

Our first station is Vancuveur, that is a deal, though the final landing place is still in suspend. And since so many people critcized my first destination-Halifax (con over pro),i had better re-consider it.

建议不要来，这里太小了，憋得慌。而且离中国也远，回趟国都不方便。

人文气息，建议去montreal，Quebec寻找。最早开发=/=底蕴最厚，加拿大才几年历史，晚二三十年开发，在历史，文化上根本看不出来一点痕迹。再说了，又不是这里最早出现人类，只是强势文明最早在这里登陆，路过这里，然后跑到montreal，ottowa，Toronto群居了，人家本来就是有文化的，带着文化来的。

几个原因我说这里没文化，根本不能和montreal等大城市比。
一，大学不多，而且大学层次也不高，最牛就是Dalhousie，排名每次都属于垫底，第9吧。
二，国际的大型活动也没有，不像montreal，多伦多，这个节那个节，这个展览那个展览
三，历史上从来就不是加拿大的中心，就是个港口罢了。文化中心，商业中心，政治中心那个也搭不上。

房子的事情，和其他地方比贵不贵我不清楚，应该也不会非常便宜。但是多伦多温哥华的房子每年都再8%-10%的增值，halifax有吗？生活费就不用说了，我去多伦多实习了4个月，东西便宜，油价便宜，举个例子，同样的价格这里加普通油，那边加ultra。生活方便就更不用说了，恨不得不回来

语言环境哪里都一样，关键是看你的主观能动性。这里华人少，不代表英语学的肯定快，如果不想学，学不进去，还是可以不说话的嘛，呵呵。如果憋久了，说汉语的机会也少，还更难过

这个我严重同意。
对于我这个已经在此生活了6年的人而言，HALIFAX有着很多定居于此的理由。但是真要客观的说，最适合中国人（尤其是30多岁的）还是中国，美国比加拿大也要好得多。真要在加拿大内部选择的话，我认为TORONTO两小时车程内的2万以上人口的城市都不错。再具体点，是TORONTO南部更靠近美国的小城，比如ST CATHARINES, HAMILTON, WATERLOO一带，来去美国和TORONTO都方便，气候也不错，物价房价也都不错。

其实加拿大真没有几个好城市可供选择. 说来说去就是那么几个. 不象美国东西两岸遍地开花. 不论在哪个城市最重要的还是要看自己. 关键之中的关键是溶入当地社会, 不然不如回国的好. 从文化的角度看生活的方便, 哪个城市也无法跟国内比. 多伦多华人虽多但说英文的机会还是很多的, 我看到不少华人不去西人超市, 不看当地主流报纸, 天天在华人小圈子里转, 只能说那些人没有真正认识多伦多. 前面看到有人说多市和温哥华的房价每年升值8%-10%, 我可以告诉你HALIFAX的房价同样如此而且很多社区还不止如此. 从回国的角度来说, 除非你开车不然HALIFAX 同其它没有直航中国的城市区别不大, 都是中间需要转一次机. 我回国往往选择乘美航在美国转机因为美航便宜, 比如从HALIFAX乘美航直飞到纽约, 华盛顿或底特律转机回国, 比乘加航在多伦多转机要方便的多.
