Canadians among world’s most satisfied: Poll
We may have some of the worst winters, but Canadians are among the most satisfied in the world about where they live, a new global poll has found.
The Ipsos Social Research Institute polled 23,673 residents in 23 countries about their level of satisfaction with their local communities.
Canadians are the second happiest in the world, with an 83% satisfaction rate. Just 5% of residents reported being unhappy. Only residents in the Netherlands are happier, with an 85% satisfaction rate.
Americans, Germans, Indians and Australians follow, with satisfaction rates between 73-82%.
Those least pleased with their communities are South Koreans (34%), Hungarians (46%) and the Chinese (45%).
Ipsos Reid’s John Wright says Canada doesn’t see the racial strife, terrorism or natural disasters that other countries do.
“We’ve had a good peace, order and good government society, and if you look across the country, some of the issues that we think are the biggest ones would rate very low on the priorities of others,” Wright said.
The study found the top priorities around the world are job prospects (42%), road repairs (39%) and cost of living (37%).
Canadians listed roads, jobs and affordable housing.
Ipsos polled about 1,000 people in each country. The survey has a 3.1% margin of error.
