OTTAWANearly 200 Canadians were evacuated from Libya on Thursday thanks to help from other countries, the federal government said.
Among those, 70 Canadians went to London, another 40 got to Madrid and 18 went to Malta, Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence said in Rome.
There are 344 Canadians registered with the Canadian embassy in Tripoli, and 213 have so far indicated their intention to leave the country. Those who were evacuated Thursday left on boats and planes arranged by other governments including the United Kingdom, Spain and the United States, officials said.
