With more tourists, business travelers and conventioneers visiting the city, downtown Chicago is about to get more of something else: hotel rooms.
Seven hotels comprising 2,340 rooms are under construction downtown, including a 400-room Loews hotel in Streeterville that broke ground last week. With 37,921 rooms downtown now, that's a 6.2 percent increase in supply. Developers are scouting sites and drawing up plans for several more projects, betting that the hotel market will continue to rebound from the worst downturn in a half-century.
“The giant is gradually getting off the mat,” says John Rutledge, president and CEO of Oxford Capital Group LLC, the Chicago-based developer of the 221-room Godfrey Hotel set to open next year in River North.
The development boom underscores the strength of the downtown market, where occupancies and room rates are approaching pre-recession levels. Yet it will bring more competition to existing hotels. Few are fretting about a glut, but that could change if the rising market emboldens more developers to build—and lenders to finance them.

美商人谎称投资可获绿卡证券交易委员会冻结欺诈者及其公司资产 　　约200中国人被骗上亿美元
　　本报讯 (记者 刘佳)当地时间8日，美国证券交易委员会(SEC)在其网站上宣布，美国商人塞思谎称投资者购买其公司股份便可快速获得移民美国的机会，诈骗250余名投 资者1.45亿美元投资和1100万美元管理费用，这些投资者大多来自中国。SEC已对塞思及其两家公司的资产进行了冻结，保留了上亿美元的投资款项，但 投资者被骗的1100万美元管理费用已有九成被花掉。
　　塞思创建的两家公司分别为芝加哥会议中心(ACCC)及芝加哥洲际区域中心信托(IRCTC)，塞思此前谎称他的公司将在芝加哥奥黑尔机场附近 融资建设“世界上第一个零碳排放铂金LEED认证”的酒店和会议中心，投资者只要购买ACCC的股份，就可以通过EB-5移民投资者试点计划快速获得移民 美国的机会。
　　EB-5计划的主要内容是，如果海外投资者投资100万美元(或50万美元在失业率较高的“特定就业领域”)于创造或维持10个美国工人岗位的项目，他们就有可能获得美国绿卡。
　　SEC表示，塞思与他的公司欺骗中国投资者称他们已经得到所有必要的建设许可，几家酒店连锁企业也加入了这一项目。他们还向美国公司身份和移民服务局提交了伪造的文件，试图取得项目许可以及投资者的临时签证。
　　SEC指控称，塞思向超过250名投资者欺诈销售超过1.45亿美元证券，并收取了1100万美元管理费用，而这些投资者主要来自于中国。塞思 曾承诺，如果签证不成功将退回收取的管理费，但塞思及其公司已经花掉了管理费的90%。其中，超过250万美元已经进入塞思在香港的个人账户。
