B.C. teachers will continue rotating strikes next week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, the B.C. Teachers' Federation announced this afternoon.
On Thursday, the Labour Relations Board will meet to discuss the employer's partial lockout and proposed 10-per-cent wage cut for teachers, with Premier Christy Clark calling for a resolution within 48 hours of that meeting.
On Wednesday, schools were closed in Delta, Coquitlam and 13 other districts. All public schools in B.C. will be behind picket lines for one day this week, as teachers implement the second stage of their job action. Last week, the teachers' employer initiated a partial lockout against teachers, and B.C. government negotiators responded by ordering a lockout and pay cut for teachers who participate in the job action. The lockout restricts teachers from working during recess or lunch hours, or from arriving at school any earlier than 45 minutes before school starts, or staying 45 minutes after school ends.
