On the eve of a massive concert meant to spark Toronto's economic renewal after the SARS outbreak, officials announced the disease had claimed another life.
A man who died on May 20 has been posthumously determined to have died of SARS, said Tanya Cholakov, a spokeswoman for Ontario's Ministry of Health.
No additional details were released about the man, 59. Ms. Cholakov could not say if he had fallen ill in the first or second outbreak in the city.
Since SARS first hit Toronto nearly five months ago, 42 people have died from the disease here. According to the World Health Organization, just over 800 people around the globe have died from severe acute respiratory syndrome.
