6月11日晚开始，是邻居们的节日，大人们都停止了工作、孩子们都穿上节日的盛装，喜气洋洋。

这是犹太人的五旬節（Shavuot）（七七節），三大节庆日之一，另外两个是逾越節(Passover)和住棚節(Sukkot)

五旬節（七七節）結合了兩個主要的宗教儀式：
農業：初夏小麥收穫；聖經中三個朝聖節日之一（與逾越節和住棚節一起），以色列男子被命令到耶路撒冷向上帝獻祭，獻上收穫的初熟果實。
歷史：出埃及七周後在西奈山頒布《托拉(Torah》。它落在逾越節後的第 50 天，結束了奧默爾的計數。

Shavuot (the Festival of Weeks) combines two major religious observances:
Agricultural: early summer wheat harvest; one of the three biblical pilgrimage festivals (along with Passover and Sukkot), when Israelite males were commanded to appear before God in Jerusalem, bringing offerings of the first fruits of their harvest.
Historical: the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai seven weeks after the exodus from Egypt. It falls on the 50th day after Passover, concluding the counting of the Omer.

計算奧默爾（Counting of the Omer）

逾越節和五旬節之間的七周被稱為“奧默爾”時期。奧默爾（“捆”）是古代測量穀物的單位，指的是逾越節第二天帶到聖殿的大麥祭品。

奥默尔是古希伯来语中一种谷物计量单位。《圣经》律法（利未记 23:9-11）禁止使用任何新收成的大麦，除非将奥默尔作为祭品带到耶路撒冷圣殿。《利未记》（23:15-16）还命令：“从你献祭的那天起……你要数七周。必须数完整。”这条诫命导致了传统的 S'firat HaOmer 习俗，即“数奥默尔”。

数奥默尔的七周跨越逾越节第二天和 Shavuot 开始之间的 49 天。因此，S'firat HaOmer 将出埃及记与西奈山颁布托拉联系起来。犹太神秘主义者扩展了这一历史联系，认为这一时期是犹太人身体（逾越节）和精神（Shavuot）救赎的结合。
