Such a loss of dignity and descent into childish behaviour on the part of the adults deeply shocks the adolescents, and makes them resolve that in future they will not talk to their parents about the places or people they visit.

句中主语看似应为Such a loss of dignity and descent into childish behaviour, a前面的Such明显是形容词,那么谓语为什么是shocks and makes而不是 shock and make? 还是我对such的理解有误? (难道这里的主语是such, 难道这里的such是代词吗?)谁能解释一下?

主语(dignity and descent) 为不可数名词，谓语用shocks and makes；

Such a loss of为定语、起修饰dignity and descent的作用，其中的such是形容词、解释为“如此......的”。

刚刚翻查了一下，出自NCE4的LESSON 34

[FONT=宋体]哈哈，楼上两位的理解都不正确。[/FONT]
1[FONT=宋体]、正确的搭配很显然是：[/FONT]a loss of dignity[FONT=宋体]丧失尊严、有失身份；[/FONT] descent into childish behaviour [FONT=宋体]降格（或堕落）到孩子气的行为；[/FONT]
2[FONT=宋体]、根据翻译意思，主语应该是[/FONT]such, [FONT=宋体]这里的[/FONT]such[FONT=宋体]是代词，指代“家长这种有失身份和降格到孩子气作法”这样或这类的事情，也就是说[/FONT]a loss of dignity and descent into childish behaviour on the part of the adults[FONT=宋体]是[/FONT]such[FONT=宋体]的同位语（具体也就是文中[/FONT]such[FONT=宋体]前面的[/FONT]Parents are often upset when their children praise the homes of their friends and regard it as a slur on their own cooking, or cleaning, or furniture, and often are foolish enough to let the adolescents see that they are annoyed.
