Main Purpose & Function
Reporting to the Revenue Services Team, the incumbent will perform moderately complex and varied clerical and accounting work including work related to the billing and collection of property tax, utility and bylaw fines payments.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Examples of work include maintaining the tax and utility land database; application of payments and adjustments to the sub-ledgers; managing specific customer groups, eg, handling subdivision of property or TIPP customers; assisting with reconciliation and other accounting related work; processing refunds on customer accounts, preparing financial and statistical reports; collections of overdue accounts; and responding to a broad range of public inquiries and complaints. This position is relied upon to provide technical support for customer service functions and may assist with the scheduling and prioritizing of work. This position may also be required to lead or participate fully in assigned projects within the division.
Qualifications
Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by recent further education in business and accounting courses. Considerable experience providing a range of customer service functions and performing more complex billing and collection activities; effective interpersonal, written & verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to use tact, discretion & confidence when dealing with the public; proven analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve financial issues; ability to handle a varied workload in a busy environment with frequent interruptions and minimal direction; effective planning and organization skills to address multiple priorities and meet deadlines; demonstrated initiative and skills working in a team environment and ability to quickly adapt to change; PC skills including an intermediate level of competency in word processing and spreadsheet applications required. Experience in scheduling the work of others and leadership skills are an asset.
