Restaurant Guides:

Restaurant Guides:
Dining Out in StyleWhile I was on a vacation last week, I decided to visit some restaurants to try some of the local cuisine; however, I didn't have a clue about the types of restaurants available, so I checked an online restaurant guide to give me some ideas and tips. Mainly, I was interested in seafood restaurants, so I searched for restaurants within a reasonable walking distance from my hotel, and I found seven of them. Next, I reviewed the online menus of the places to check the dishes they prepared and the average cost of a meal. However, price is not my first consideration; I enjoy a restaurant that has a wide selection from which to choose. Next, a restaurant's decor can always add to the dining experience (background music, decorations and wall hangings, seats and tables, etc.). If I'm going to a Mexican restaurant, I would expect to see the restaurant decorated in the Mexican flavor. Finally, I always consult restaurant reviews to find out what other people thought about the restaurant and their experiences. What was the quality of the food ? Did the server provide fast and friendly service? Doing some research before you go can making dining a more pleasurable and predictable experience.

Buying Train Tickets

Buying Train Tickets
This summer, I'm planning on taking a trip to Europe, and I want to be able to get around easily, so I'm looking into buying a cheap train pass(火车通票?) or tickets to make travel a little easier. My first step is to talk to a friend who is a travel agent to see how much train passes cost for a two-week trip. I'm looking for some kind of pass that allows me to get on and off the train at any stop during my trip. I also don't care if I ride first class or not; I'm most concerned about saving money, and some discount train pass would be best. My friend also suggested looking online for Internet specials on train passes. Train fares often drop in price depending on the season, so if I end up traveling during the off season (not a time when most people are vacationing), I might be able to get a better deal on a train pass. However, because I only have a limited amount of time to travel, I don't want to get stuck on(??) a slow-moving train that makes stops at every station.

Vacation Plans:

Vacation Plans:
Airplane, Train, and Bus Travel
Before I go on vacation, I always plan my trip. For starters, I usually take a look at travel guide books or go online and review possible destinations. Then, I check the costs involved in traveling to that particular place. If I'm going by plane, then I have to compare prices on airfare for different airlines. If I'm traveling by train, then I have to look into train passes or tickets. I also need to locate hotel accommodations. Fortunately, I don't mind staying at cheap hotels or even a youth hostel. Finally, I try to budget money for meals and other sightseeing expenses. If I plan carefully, I usually have a good time

Attending ESL Classes

Attending ESL Classes
I attend English classes at a language program in my city because I want to improve my communication skills. English has become the international language around the world, and I might be able to get better employment and make more friends if I learn to speak fluently. I take four classes a day that all focus on different language skills including reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar. I think that some people have a natural ability to pick up a language and master it, but I don't think I fit that group. Actually, learning to speak English well requires a great amount of effort, patience, and practice. Too often, students speak English in their classes, but they go back to using their native language after school ends. In fact, if you want to adjust to a new culture, you should make it a point to study, review, and practice everything you are studying. Otherwise, you will never learn and fit into the any group.

Getting an Online University Degree

Getting an Online University Degree
I've decided to get an online university degree through distance education instead of attending a traditional school. In such a program, students don't have to attend classes in a regular classroom. Instead, they go online and interact with fellow students and the teacher in a virtual classroom using bulletin boards or other Internet tools. Also, students sometimes share ideas through text or voice chat. Students still have to do assignments, write papers, and take tests, but everything is done online at a student's own convenience. The students sometimes work at their own pace depending on the class schedule, but getting an online university degree can provide more flexibility and study options than before.

ESL Programs:
Registering for School
I'm thinking about enrolling in an ESL program in the United States to improve my English. I'm looking for a program that has a good reputation with very qualified ESL instructors. I'm also looking for a program that will prepare me academically to enter a university somewhere in North America. Furthermore, I'd like to join a program that organizes activities for students so they get to know people better from around the world. I prefer small classes between eight and ten students which gives you opportunities to get more individualized attention from the teacher. The cost of tuition is important, but my first priority is getting a good education.

TOEFL Test Preparation

TOEFL Test Preparation
To get into many colleges and universities in North America, international students have to take the TOEFL Test (Test of English to Speakers of Foreign Languages) and get a good score on the test. Today, the test is used to determine how well a student might perform at an institution of higher learning. The test evaluates students listening, writing, speaking, and reading skills. To prepare for the test, students need to improve their language skills and learn test-taking strategies to do well on the test. Taking a TOEFL class help students prepare, but reading extensively and listening to academic lectures and news programs---and talking about them---can increase your ability to answer questions on the test.
