　　　　The General Assembly designated the first World Water Day in 1993, and on March 22 every year since, the focus has been on a different aspect of freshwater sustainability, including sanitation卫生设施 and water scarcity.

　　　　联合国大会在1993年确定了首个世界水日，自此之后，每年3月22日被定为世界水日。世界水日的主题集中在淡水资源可持续利用的不同方面，包括水资源清洁状况以及水荒。
　　　　文中的water scarcity就是指“水荒”，也称为water shortage（水资源缺乏）。地球上的水资源主要分为freshwater（淡水）和salt water（咸水）两大类。其中，无法直接食用的salt water占绝大多数。我们平时所喝的则是经过处理的safe drinking water（安全饮用水）。为了节约用水，很多农田还使用了drip irrigation（滴灌技术）。

　　　　文中的publicize budget就是指“公开预算”，也可以用make the budget public，或者release/disclose budget来表示。这是我国推进government transparency（政务透明）的一项重大举措。而在此之前，我们很难在budget report（预算报告）中看到具体细节。据报道，去年我国的budgetary income（预算内收入）达到6.8万亿元。

　　　　网上葬礼不会保留骨灰，而是建立一个网上墓地，通过发布讣闻和悼念信息来纪念死者。

　　　　未来40年中国“劳动力储备充足”国务院人口问题顾问表示，中国虽然存在人口老龄化问题，但由于未来40年内劳动力供给充足，因此中国仍将保持发展势头。
　　上文中的labor supply就是指“劳动力供给”，也被形象地称为labor pool，即“劳动力储备”。“劳动力”也称为labor force，如果labor supply（劳动力供给） 远远小于labor demand（劳动力需求），就会演变成labor shortage（用工荒）；反之则体现为labor surplus /redundance（劳动力过剩）。从人口统计趋势看，中国逐步迈入aging society（老龄化社会），因此labor market（劳动力市场）将是我国面临的一大挑战。
　　　　
　　　　值得一提的是，pool这个词形象地描绘出了人员、资源集中的状态，类似的说法还有talent pool（人才库）、forex reserve pool（外汇储备库）、data pool（数据库）、gene pool（基因库）等等。油价看涨后，不少上班族上下班选择car pooling/sharing（拼车），不失为一种既时尚，又环保的选择。
