I do not know really.
On one hand I guess I sort of understand the landlady. It is rather sudden that the home stay student decided to leave without fullfiling the whole contract. ( Presumably they have contract). However, that is what the deposit is for. And moreover, this might all start with a favour they offered. It is only natural that the landlady was not too happy about it. Frankly, nobody would like to have a tenant if not necessary. It was like a betrayal in a way.

BBS is a place for ppl to speak out and so how can we blame them?
On the other hand, I think I would not be surprised though. To be honest, when I first came abroad, I seldom paid respect to any forms of contract. ( Just like the home stay kid, I guess)
But that is only in my mind, I did not think highly of the contract. In reality, I always finish my contract though.

The lady involved is quite direct and outspoken, which shows from her blog. ( pretty good one). She is rather smart. ( and has a lot of friends , hehe), ( Donot thow bricks at me

). Friends are very often needed when in time of trouble , such as this. So came the very heated discussion. ( Even I am invloved now, even at the moment I have to face a lot of exams

) From my expereince, there are rules different from home and it might be better for us not to ignore it even if we are not going to follow them. It is much simpler to live abroad if one is not too ambitious and it might be advisable not to scheme too much ahead. Of course it is obvious that sometime we do need to stand up for ourselves.
However, in most of the cases, it might just be a matter of misunderstanding.
Don't throw me bricks, the fans of the two parties.
