在网上看到2012年美国部分大学入学申请的作文题目。我比较喜欢Occidental College （西方学院）的题目。我觉得这个问题对人的一生成长至关重要：feel joy, true joy.....这不仅是一件重要的事情，而且充满了挑战。

“The Roman philosopher Seneca, writing in the first century, wrote a set of letters of advice to a young friend. In the 23rd letter he wrote, "Make this your business: learn how to feel joy...true joy, believe me, is a serious thing." Write a short response to these thoughts, indicating if you wish, the extent to which you may have come to realize that Seneca was right.”

罗马哲学家塞内加在一世纪的时候曾经写过一系列给年轻人的信。在第二十三封中他写道：“让这成为你的事业：学习如何去感受快乐……真正的快乐，相信我，这是一件庄重的事。”请关于这一思想写一短文，并指出你认可塞内卡的程度。

我觉得圣母大学出的作文题目最严肃。圣母大学的校园美极了，尤其是夏天的阳光照在开阔的草地上，既明亮又柔和。我从威斯康辛开车去东岸几次路过，拍了很多照片。

Notre Dame's mission statement emphasizes an education should "create a sense of human solidarity and concern for the common good that will bear fruit as learning becomes service to justice." Describe an experience that engaged you both intellectually and morally.
圣母大学的宗旨强调教育应该“创建人类团结和关心共同利益，使得学习能够为正义服务”。请描述一段曾在理智上和道德上启发过你的经历。

我的母校，Lehigh University 出的题目可以说是平淡无奇：
If you founded your own college or university, what topic of study would you make mandatory for all students to study and why? What would be the values and priorities of your institution and why?
如果你能建立一所自己的大学，你会设置什么课程作为所有学生的必修课，为什么?你的学校的优先价值是什么，为什么?

Brandeis University布兰迪斯大学出的题目可以说是剑走偏锋，很刁钻，很难，至少对于我这样一个没有深入思考过美国法律的人来说是这样的。

最高法院法官Louis D. Brandeis曾说过：“如果我们想让法律受人尊敬，就必须要让法律值得尊敬。”请告诉我们一条你觉得应当被废除的法律(成文法或不成文法)

接了一笔翻译活，中译英，三十多万字。
成交之前小编给我传来两篇文字要求我试译。

第一篇显然是摘自文学作品。第一句话就让我眼前一黑，愣住了。

“含含做梦都不会想到，她竟然在这三天里从了三个男人。”

啥意思？？？从了三个男银？很暧昧呀。

再往下看，发现这原来是纯文学，笔调抒情而唯美，中文形象而生动，不断激发我脑子里面的英文词汇一个一个往外蹦。不一会儿我就翻完了。

It was beyond Hanhan's wildest dreams that over the last three days she had gotten laid with three men. She was lucky that her mom and dad had died. Had people indeed possessed souls after death, her parents would have crawled out of their tombs, just to die again.
Some years later, when Hanhan was finally closing her eyes to the world, she did not see little demons coming to take her life. She saw nothing but her family's past riches and splendor. The New Year was just around the corner. Cleanly skinned pigs and sheep dangled all around the backyard, as if they had grown out of the earth in clusters. Strings of fish hang under the eaves of the house, watching in bewilderment the people strolling around with their hands hidden in sleeves. Hanhan heard from the servants that the fireworks and crackers alone had cost hundreds of silver coins. Who knows how much more the extravagance of lanterns and decorations had cost? Festive lanterns were attached to newly painted doors, lattices of windows and in the trees. Even the water vat for fire prevention in the yard had a scarlet silky ribbon tied to it.

翻译是辛苦钱，但几个月的吃穿用度应该有着落了，同时再辅导几个学生。。。。
