Aboriginal rights have recently received much attention from the "Idle No More" movement.
With constant clashes between government actions and treaty rights, it is evident that Aboriginals have always had difficulty preserving their traditions.
These disputes have not only been the subject of much political news ever since Aboriginals were granted specific rights by the Charter in 1982, but has also been portrayed in many films.
One in particular, "Pocahontas", with its beautiful soundtrack, was a key inspiration when working on "Alumuna".
The name comes from the aboriginal word for "our home". It combines traditional Aboriginal beliefs with an evidently not Aboriginal female subject.
The look of curiosity on the face of the European girl in the piece can be interpreted as a fascination inflicted on her by this beautiful new world that she has been exposed to.
As she becomes interconnected with what she's experienced, she glances back and wonders..."Why?"
