Just to clarify, I’m one of the roommate. First of all, my roommate and I did not ask her to end up the lease with the tenant, and we are friendly when our new roommate drop her things in her room few days ago. Second, she did not ask for our permission to sublet her room, we know it until the first person who come over to see the room. She just told us she was leaving and asked us to fill a new contract, and keep a copy of our passports. During the final exam period, she told us there would be people coming to see the house for the first two or three times. Not asking for permission, she just ask us not to use the washroom. And for the rest of the week, she didn’t tell us about any of the strangers who showed up.
In principle, when she signed the contract with the new tenant, she should let the tenant meet our landlord and tell us about it. However, she did everything herself without even informing us (including the landlord). She deleted my wechat Instagram and Facebook last month, and she is very clear what the landlord’s preference is, and she still insist to find a tenant who don’t speak Chinese without telling landlord until we all know about it. We can rent this house is because we can communicate with the landlord, of course I do not encourage only rent house to people from same country, and landlord should learn some English. But I believe for this situation he would prefer to rent to people who can speak Chinese just in case there wont be any future problem until he can communicate with English.
Also What she mentioned that landlord use 外国人 foreigner in his texts, and I saw some comments explain about it, and in Chinese this means people who are not same nationality as they are, this can be used everywhere, and he use it because he is not sure what tenant’s nationality. This is not appropriate in Canada , and we apologize for use the word. According to what she showed in her article, the last sentence landlord said is 能与租房的外国人解除合同最好.Which means it will be better to discharge of contract, he did not force her to do so. She just tried to leading everyone to believe that is racism, I don’t know how to post pictures , can’t show our discussion on this issue before this is happening, sorry about that.
My roommate and I did not disturb her at all and although what she have done seems unreasonable. What my roommate and I told the landlord is the house is not ours, we just being mad because she did not tell us anything that we suppose to know, our landlord will be in charge with that. This is the my version of the story, this is what I truely know and heard. its a bit long, and thank you for your patient to finish it.
