Henry Lam

I think the organizers are correct to discourage separate issues - overseas conflicts - from having a voice at the parade. If they allow pro and anti China groups they would also have to allow other ideologies to protest, and you end up with a bunch of people who don't get along all voicing their opinions while trying to have a fun parade at the same time

Pride is essentially a protest. Involving a separate, and unrelated protest is silly and waters down the message. I support both issues, but protest movements get ruined when they turn in into general anger fests.

Reply to @doug johnson: I actually joined in Pride in 1980 and gave up on pride several years back when it became clear it have no longer about equality and inclusiveness and became about exclusiveness and being "special".

Cannabis Pride parades do not promote cannabis use but celebrate our freedom to choose medication for ourselves.
What will you put on your float?
Does anyone remember Bill and Ben, the flowerpot-men, on kid CBC? Maybe Brit?

These Hongkongers are super naive. Canadians will only suport and help you to provoke your protests as long as they are far away in Hong Kong. When you protests for Hong Kong Independence in Quebec, you will get booted. That's how democracy works.

Beau Tanner reply Who made the threats? Pro Communist Sympathizers? Is sympathizing with China now illegal? What threats? Because the police said so? It is so easy for the power in any country to us it's police as an information filter. The police said nothing that will change a thing going forward.

As to the Democracy thing. I'd love to tell you how my law abiding family has been treated in Canada because I'm tired of listening to people tell me how wonderful everything is ... » more

We keep hearing stories about who's being excluded from these events. It seems to be less about diversity and inclusion than it is about tribalism and power.

The term used to frame this accusation is alleged and has no standing legally anywhere. He's alleged to have stolen a candy. Pro-Communist's have threatened the parade well arrest them if they have threatened the parade. Or this is just blowing smoke to slight the Chinese further just like Russia and Putin. You know the bad guys. Who won't let America and The Trump walk all over them like certain other countries.

I will not hate whole countries just because they tell me too. Is China ... » more

Reply to @michael Gnit: Who's asking you to hate whole countries? In any case, I'm not sure what context could be added when inquiring into their intentions that would justify threats.

The irony would be funny if it wasn't so scary.
