自从来到加拿大，就一直问自己楼主的这个问题，后来发现自己有点傻，有点一厢情愿
总觉得加拿大的所谓的多元文化，不过是个美好的愿望，就好比我们经常在国内宣传我们要尊重农民工，平等对待农民工一样，你做到了吗？反正我是没有。一定的文化修养，让我可以和蔼亲切的对待他们，但那只是表面，在我的内心，依然对他们有很多偏见，就像公司里如果谁去了厕所没有冲水，我百分百会认为是他们那些民工干的好事，尽管猜对的的几率在95%以上，可是还有5%的冤枉
这里的白人对我们也是一样的，表面上的和善不代表接受，那只是他们自身的文化修养使然，其实内心中，他们肯定有偏见，只是不愿意承认而已
真的要融入，我觉得需要我们几代人的努力，先让那些多少热爱中国文化的老外接受我们，然后慢慢来。。
总之LZ的话是真确的：
有效地沟通真的很重要
不能融入并不完全是我们的责任，我们需要争取跟多的话语权

了解就可以了，没必要强调融入，真正融入他们圈子中的人，估计又和本族人融不到一起了。和他们聊聊天，串串门，那并不代表就是融入。

写的很诚恳，尤其用农民工作例子的那段话，没错，一个人好的修养可以让他在表面上与任何“异类”和平的相处，但真的不能就说明在心底完全的认同对方，但这又有什么关系呢，我们要的最终是自己的生活。

西人头脑简单，性情直爽，好打交道。只需真是表达自己意图，不要谦虚，不要谨慎，不要太含蓄，不要耍心眼，就像我这样性格。
在国人中，也有很性格直率的，只要你喜欢性格直率的，会和性格直率的交往，不会看不惯性格直率的，就可以融入西方。
相反，如果你比较含蓄，内向，低调，谦虚谨慎，戒骄戒躁，而且工于心计，那就不适合和西方人。

It depends on what is involved. For holding the door, yes, after you. When it comes to a promotion opportunity, ......Straight, possibly, but definitely not in your way.

为什么要改变自己去融入西人？
物以类聚，人以群分。
西人有西人的圈子，华人有华人的圈子，要什么要伤脑筋去融入别人的圈子呢？

There are three levels of integration: technical, social and cultural. At the basic level it is the technical integration. Traffic rules and office manners belong to this category. To some degree, you have to integrate at this level.

At the intermediate level it is the social integration. For example, you should hold the door for those who come after you. Another example is when you hand over a knife, you leave the handle for others. It is not mandatory for you to integrate at this level, but it is to your benefit if you do.

At the highest level it is the cultural integration. It seems that you would not benefit from this integration in terms of material gains. However, what you really get is the spirit freedom, enabling you fly from one spirit world to another one.

So why integrate? If you need to work and live in a new world, even as a labour, you have to integrate at the technical level; If you want to work as a so called professional, you have to integrate at both the technical and social levels; If you want to work toward the so called mainstream society, you have to integrate at all levels including the cultural level. Do not try to assume that you can buy the highest integration status because you have enough money.

Yes, birds of a feather flock together. The problem is if birds of different feathers have to live together, do you think that the newcomers should live the way the ealier birds have lived? I am afraid that there would be no options other than accepting it.

我觉得融入不融入还是顺其自然为好，第一代移民关键是学习好，工作好和身体好。我在中国活了40年，还觉得没有融入什么所谓的“正宗”了。所以余生无论在哪里生活，不考虑融入了。但是，交朋友还是人生乐趣

我觉得融入不融入还是顺其自然为好，第一代移民关键是学习好，工作好和身体好。我在中国活了40年，还觉得没有融入什么所谓的“正宗”了。所以余生无论在哪里生活，不考虑融入了。但是，交朋友还是人生乐趣

没错，朋友多了自然看法就不同了。
