Power Plant Operator TPO

One year contract position, possible extension.
Duffield, AB (70km west of Edmonton)
- Summary
The Power Plant Operator (TPO or PPO) is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable and efficient operation of power plant areas in order to meet operating standards and production needs.
Responsibilities
- Maintains a high standard of safety in the power plant by consistently promoting and participating in safety policies and procedures.
- Ensures optimal operation of plant equipment and systems.
- Analyzes operating problems by troubleshooting, diagnosing and root cause analysis. Solves and eliminates operating problems by being proactive, considering risk and profitability in solutions/options and aligning actions/decisions with business needs.
- Initiates work repair notices.
- Carries out all routine duties on time.
- Operates assigned area of responsibility within set standards and guidelines.
- Maintains compliance to established standards of the Loss Management program.
- Learns new areas of responsibility and participates in required training programs including the Operator Training Progression Program (L1-L10).
- Looks for opportunities and acts on suggestions to reduce ineffective work.
- Adheres to plant processes by understanding the plant cycle, plant processes, all area equipment, maintenance methods and practices and by participating in the Operator Training Progression Program.

Work Experience & Education
- Valid 4th or 3rd class Power Engineer’s Certificate of Competency
- Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts.
- Intermediate computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet and databases)
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Preference will be given to candidates with two or more years experience working in a high-pressure steam plant, and who have or are working on their 2nd class power engineering certificate.
