对于新移民来说,耐心是极其重要的。日子要一天一天过,事情要一件一件做。做事情紧凑而不忙乱,有条不紊。这样有助于提升对自己的信心。

您这个新移民和其它许多直接从大陆来的新移民还不一样,曾经在美国呆过12年。。。那已经对北美的生活有许多熟悉了。能说说温哥华和你曾经住12年的美国那地方的比较吗?

听到几位新移民朋友感叹“来到这里之后发现跟原来在国内想象的不一样。”


这种现象并不奇怪。国内的环境跟加拿大完全不同。我们在国内想象的加拿大的情形当然是不完整,甚至是不现实的。如果我们能够在国内完整、现实地想象加拿大的情形,那岂不是神机妙算吗。


来到一个新地方,需要经过一个阶段才能够逐步认识和适应当地的环境。这个过程是出发之前在国内所作的任何准备都无法替代的。

[FONT=宋体]听到几位新移民朋友感叹来到加拿大之后生活质量降低了。原来在国内习以为常的事情现在不能做了。比如经常请朋友吃饭、聚会、K歌、洗脚、揉足、在商店里面不看价钱随意扫货。最主要的还是当时能够拿一分稳定的工资,虽然不多,但每月都会有一笔钱到自己的账户里,雷打不动。这些东西当你拥有的时候可能觉得没什么,一旦失去了,内心的丧失感和失落感是难以避免的。这种心情让我想起《刻舟求剑》的故事。正好前几天国内一位专攻婚姻家庭咨询的朋友让我帮她把这故事翻译成英文。我觉得这故事对于我们这些新移民也是有启发的。下面是我的译文[/FONT]​



[FONT=宋体]The Story of the Lost Sword[/FONT]​


[FONT=宋体]A man was taking a boat to cross the river. When the boat was in the middle of the river, he accidentally dropped a very expansive sword he was carrying overboard into the river. The other passengers in the boat asked him whether he wanted the boatman to stop the boat so that he could search and recover the sword. He declined. With great confidence, he took out a small knife and scratched the side of the boat. He told his fellow passengers that there was no need to worry, and he would recover his sword once the boat arrived at the other side. Everyone watched him with curiosity to see what would happen next. [/FONT]​


[FONT=宋体]When the boat reached the other side, he immediately went into the water at exactly the place where he had made a scratch mark on the side of the boat and tried to retrieve his sword. However, after a long time and a lot of effort, he could not locate his sword. Confused and frustrated, he mumbled to himself: “hadn’t my sword fallen into the river exactly on this spot? I even made a mark on the side of the boat. Why can’t I find my sword? ” Now his fellow passengers laughed at him, saying “the boat has moved, but your sword stayed where it fell into water. How could you find your sword at the edge of the river? ”[/FONT]​


[FONT=宋体]这个故事告诉我们环境变了,处境不同了,我们不能用过去的标准和老的眼光来衡量我们当前面对的事情。与时俱进就是这个道理。[/FONT]

昨天去Aberdeen的一家Authorized Bell Dealer处理预付电话费的问题,体验是不愉快的。当时给Bell的服务热线打了三通电话 to file a complaint,始终不得要领。最后一个服务代表建议我在网上file a complaint. 我想Bell对其authorized dealers也是应该有监督和审查之责的吧。

To file 这个complaint 要花费一定的时间,这是我很不愿意做的,所以今天早上一直在拖延。关键是向Bell complain about their authorized dealer 是否有效不得而知。但我想还是应该在今天上午把这件事完成,不然心里总觉得有件事没办妥。

另外一个感想是一家公司要管理好服务热线真的很不容易。昨天接听我的热线电话的服务代表说话都带有很重的口音,而且理解能力似乎也不太跟得上,也许是我英语不够地道,再加上我说话的时候又是带有情绪的。我在国内做EAP的时候,就深感我们电话中心的初诊咨询是压力很大,让大部分客户满意是不容易的。但服务热线的质量恰恰反映了一个公司的管理水平。

你打的时间可能是下午,没准儿被转到印度的call centre去了。
至于complaint,书面的比电话的好使。

嗯,我正在写书面的complaint.

另外,咱这地界儿有没有啥类似comsumer protection agency的机构可以file complaint的?

作为老移民给你出个最佳解决办法: 算了。

刚才在新浪微博上看到这样一段话:

“海明威曾经说过一句话,我们花了两年学会说话,就要花60年来学会闭嘴,大多数的时候我们说的越多,彼此的距离就会越远,矛盾也会越多,在沟通当中大多数人只是急于表达自己,一吐为快,却一点不懂对方,两年学说话,一生学闭嘴,懂与不懂不多说,心乱就等心静慢慢说,如果真没话就别说。”
